Battle of the Worlds - MST3k Fanvid
Story: We did this video just for fun almost a decade ago. This year we found it being traded on the internet! How people got it we don't know, but it's out there. We ask that you not buy copies from people selling it. It's not right. Besides, our own personal copies are 6th generation! So whatever is being traded out there is terrible! We are currently digitizing the SVHS master tapes and going to make a DVD. So if you would like to be on the waiting list for that, contact us using the form below. We won't sell them either. But we will trade. Or you can pay for the cost of the DVD. So email your interest to help speed the DVD along! I am not aware of any legal problems regarding this. We desire to stay within the law. If we are in error please let us know. We did contact Best Brains back in 1993 and they said it's ok as long as we don't air it on TV.

What we did.
Battle of the Worlds is a movie better left alone. Why did we pester it? That's addressed in the next section. We made our own version of the show we had been enjoying for years. Runtime approx. 2hrs. The skits and jokes are mostly inside jokes and lines from MST3k. Again, we never intended to make this a public thing. When Joel was asked why don't you release the first season UHF episodes he said something to the effect of: "Because they are not very good." That's how we feel about our show. But you will enjoy it if you are a hard core fan and like to see the work others have done. We only had 3 script writers. We were also the set builders and everything else.

Why we did it.
I was walking in the mall in San Jose California when I saw in the store window the head of Tom Servo. Of course I bought one and then I decided to make the rest of him. Back then there was no ebay. The only options for finding parts were 1.Scrounge, 2. Goodwill Stores, and 3. Make your own. Since you can't have just one... I created Crow. With two bots, we figured lets just make the whole show! Only problem was, we didn't have any equipment. I didn't even have a video camera let alone editing equipment. As we started writing a script everything fell into place. The luxury of youth awarded us ample time for this kind of project. I had just graduated from High School and had a lot of time to work on it.

How we did it.
As luck would have it, we gained access to the Lincoln High School studio. They had just built it complete with 3 cameras, bluescreen, lights, Media 100, and several SVHS decks. Because it was so new, nobody else was using it, so we were able to leave the set standing till filming was complete. The SOL set is made out of cardboard 1" thick. (hard to find) The door has been decorated with cheap plastic toys like plastic Dracula teeth. After making an entire SOL set we didn't feel like making Deep 13. So we still framed a shot of Deep 13 from a MST episode. The door sequence was filmed with a small camera and family members at every door. The sound effects for the doors are from the old Super Nintendo game Castlevania 4. I love that game, it's one of the best. That was one of the first games that you could scroll through sound effects.
